I just found out as of today, I have genital herpes. What angers is me is that every one of my partners claimed they were checked and didn't have anything. It makes me not wanna even date a guy ever again. Actually, I'm scared to date b/c I'm afraid I'll scare the guy away. I'm only 21 years old..I feel ashamed and horrible right now.

For those of you who have had herpes for a while, how long did it take until you started to feel better (emotionally) after you got diagnosed? Also, if I do date again, what's the best way tell the guy that I date that I have herpes? I'm just glad I found this site b/c I feel like I have no one else to turn to. Thanks

Im sorry to hear about your situation. Ive had herpes for about 4 years now... and I just want to give you as much advice as I can, yet Im still not sure of much of it anyways. I think the hardest part of having it it telling the people you are or want to date. First... be honest, but not too honest. Once I told a guy that I had just started dating and he freaked out. Put this was back in high school when everyone found out everyones buisness. Just make sure you can the trust the guy well enough that you know you can trust him with your privet life, also so you dont get in this same situation.

It will take a while to get emotionally over it. Im still not totally there yet. I think I didnt get out of bed for a mounth when I found out.

Just have hope... you will find that perfect guy who loves you for you and doesnt care about any of that stupid shit.

I am so sorry to hear about your condition, I recently found out that I have contracted HSV from my partner of 4 months, he was not honest with me about cold sore and had performed oral on me, and now I feel like dirty. The thing is with this disease is that it resides in your nerves, I read an article online about how they created a "cure" a while back. However it cause sever nerve damage thus preventing it from being approved. Just keep in mind with todays science and medical advancements there might be a cure soon. Research diets and relaxation techniques for poor eating habits and stress can trigger an outbreak.

I'm very sorry to hear that. I found out that i had herpes about a year ago. I was in denial for a while and couldn't understand how it had happened. I spent a lot of time crying and regreting. I felt ashamed. It is still scary, but what helped me alot was learning as much as i could about the virus. The more informed i was and the more i understood helped me grasp what was going on and made me less scared. Herpes won't ruin your life and it is completely manageable. I hope you find someone you can talk with and confide in. That also helped me soooo much. When you have a secret hanging on to you it can really drag you down.

I guess I'm sort of in the same boat. I was just diagnosed wedsnesday. I feel horrible. i just turned 22. There was a period of a few hours where I just didn't stop crying. I feel horrible =(

I am in exactly the same boat. I just turned 22 as well. I think the worst part of it, for me right now, is that I don't know how I got it!
